This 12,000 square foot residence nestles into an existing three-acre Japanese Garden. One of the key challenges was to delicately place the house and its extensive program within the steep, narrow lot and garden. The team developed a strong linear composition of interweaving interior and outdoor spaces. The public spaces extend onto the patios and push forward into the existing garden, while guest and support spaces nestle into the existing hillside on the opposite end. The main entry way is surrounded by a warm palette of materials chosen deliberately to accentuate the horizontal tie into the landscaping while minimizing the scale of the architectural form.

This composition of building, pool, and landscape complements a historic landmark Denver home. The design works to integrate the three elements as seamlessly as possible to provide indoor and outdoor space for exercise and entertaining. The glazing of the structure and the surface of the pool both mirror the sky and landscape. The interior finishes flow out into the exterior spaces, minimizing the distinction between indoors and out. The end result provides varying layers of function without competing with the historic home.

The Williams Ridge Residence is situated in a privately held nature preserve in the foothills of Colorado’s Front Range. The house is precisely situated on the 39 acres nestled between the site’s aspen trees & rock outcropping and organized along a spine that aligns with the ridge of the landform. The house favors complete transparency on the south to the valley, while views are framed through deliberate openings in the primarily solid northern façade.

The client approached us to design a 480 square foot micro home intended to be built in Denver and moved to Austin, Texas as part of their business expansion. The owner is currently the CFO of a local winery and relocating his family to Austin to open a new tasting room for the winery. This home was designed in two phases; the original design was based on a single custom trailer that was to be built by Meredith’s family business. Due to production schedule conflicts with the build, two separate trailers were obtained and utilized for the program. The program consisted of a main living space in one trailer and the private bedroom and bathroom in the other trailer connected by a covered outdoor patio. The materials utilized are modern and bohemian as a direct reflection of the owner’s style.

The programmatic layout of this 10,000 square foot Cherry Hills residence is organized in a non-traditional fashion to take advantage of the panoramic views. The spaces are organized along a central axis through which consecutive spaces are successively revealed as the occupant moves from one end of the house to the other. The bedrooms are located on the ground level and the living spaces directly above.  The entry foyer is located below the elevated glass cube of the music room, and serving to link the guest suite to the main house with a staircase to a glass bridge. The connectivity of the outdoor rooms and sense of transparency provided by the expanses of glass invite the site’s naturally sculpted landscape inside.

This project consisted of multiple and dispersed renovations and additions to a home located in Denver’s historic Country Club neighborhood including a new lap pool, new outdoor entertaining space, and a new wine cellar.  The original home, built in 1916, was designed by William E. Fisher & Arthur A. Fisher. This historic house exemplifies a period in Denver’s development history when architectural styles were quite varied, and yet, the craftsmanship of homes in this neighborhood valued the investment in design. Our design seeks to be consistent with another hundred years of use by carrying forward the original design principles judiciously applied in the context of today’s needs and technology.
